The majestic Oak - a tree that defines Britain.
Strong and stern and going nowhere. What some do not know is that it has uses in Bushcraft you may find surprising.
Oak is the ultimate firewood - hard and solid it burns for a long time at a greater temperature than most if not all the other hardwoods.
Yew is the only wood ive found that burns better.
Oaks durability - makes it great for tools. Axe handles or alike or items that need to be durable. Oak is a material of strength which is why it was used so heavily as a building material.
Cordage - the inner bark of oak can be processed and used as cordage like cedar. Adding another layer to its beauty.
Stripped and reversed wrapped should be fine.
Kindling/tinder - as it burns so hot and well when dried, oak twigs can make an excellent source of second stage ignition material.
Medicine - oak contains lots of tanins which can be boiled out and made into a salve as it contains astringent properties which can be good for a variety of skin conditions.
Food - the mere acorn can be used as a carbohydrate staple. Flour can be made from acorns after leaching out the tanins which make it very bitter.
After rinsing acorns in water for many hours, preferably in flowing water like a river acorns can be dried crushed and made into flour then bread.
Hope you learnt something from this guys. Thats what its all about.
